You may have heard that hemp is a wonderful, versatile and sustainable plant that has many uses. Recently, it has become the trend for pet owners to start using products such as hemp oils on their pets to reap the health benefits.
But why is hemp good for our pets? And if so what are the benefits that come along with it?
Since the use of medicinal cannabis and hemp products for humans is on the increase, many pet owners are considering including a hemp oil supplement as part of their pets' diet. Unlike medicinal cannabis which has high amounts of THC and CBD, hemp oil has much lower amounts of these psychoactive constituents that are known for creating the "high" effect.
Whilst low in THC, hemp oil is a rich source of omega 6 and 3 fatty acids that naturally occur in the most perfect ratio of 3:1 which lessens chronic inflammation.
Hemp is also packed full of protein and fibre, contains all amino acids as well as an array of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants making it a nutritious additive into not only your own but your pet's diet as well.
Here is a small breakdown of the nutrients that hemp is rich in:
- Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids- for chronic inflammation, skin, heart and nervous system health
- Protein (amino acids) - Essential for growth and repair
- Minerals (Potassium, magnesium, iron, copper, phosphorous, zinc)- Needed for most bodily functions and to maintain skin, hair and bone health
- Antioxidants (Vitamins A & E, terpenes)- fight free radicals which are involved in cancer and aging, improve skin and nervous system health
Hemp is a wonderful, sustainable and highly useful plant that can have a positive impact on your health, your pet's health and the environment we live in.
